I’ll be honest with you, I’m not a curtain person.
It’s not that I despise the actual look of curtains, it’s that I crave all the light that’s possible living here in this house, on this little hill, facing east, with the kitchen in the northwest corner of the house, with one…tiny…window (who puts a kitchen in the darkest corner of the house? Who does that!?). We have plans on cutting a new doorway into the kitchen to allow for more natural light to flow in from the living room. For now, we’re going to hold off on the curtains…that is, until the kitchen remodel is complete. Then I’ll be making plans for fabulous windows like these (of course, that would require me actually owning this home. A girl can dream).
Once the dust settles, I’ll be all sorts of happy shopping for fabrics and such.
I have a simple little house, with simple windows. The pair of windows in the living room are just begging to be covered in lovely sheers and draped in silks and linens (however, our budget may demand cottons and coupons). As with any set of curtains and draperies, I will also have to acquire tie backs of some sort. I want tie backs with style, ones that are unique, I want whimsy! I want to make some of these.
Vintage necklaces…brilliant!
Another fantastic concept from Urban Outfitters, a door knob! I could purchase ones like this, or, head over to my antique dealers and just find something similar and have the Lusty Woodsman whip up a few for me…yes, that’s a better plan (I love it when he’s all crafty).
Cast iron hooks…now this is rather clever! The lovely Miss Kim and Mr. Scott have a quick little tutorial on making your own tie backs with cast iron hardware in the Kingdom of Yellowbrickhome.
I just adore buttons! This is another clever idea for a tie back, yes? Now that I’ve traveled around the vast Land of Internets in search of clever ideas, I’m all the more ready to get this kitchen gutted and the doorway put in…I’m needing some curtains! Do you have more fantastic ideas to share? We would love to see what you’ve come up with. Cheers!

Love the vintage necklaces, but I think they would look much nicer around my neck. Now the aqua crystal doorknob… that’s a winner!
Everything would look lovely on you, Miss Mel! I do adore the doorknob, too…maybe in a shade of lavender? or perhaps a deep sea blue? Cheers!
